Immunotherapy is one of the newest and most advanced types of therapies available to treat cancer.

We have successfully used immunotherapy at the Rubio Cancer Center as part of our therapy protocols for over 20 years, and it forms the heart of our treatment program. Through developing a series of remarkable vaccines from components of the patient’s own body and cancer cells, we have discovered we can impart information to the natural defenses to effectively stop and destroy cancerous tumors.

When properly awakened, a patient’s immune system already has all the tools necessary to detect, attack, and destroy cancer. The only way to completely stop cancer is through enhancing the functioning of the immune system. Rubio Cancer Center’s unique therapies work to fortify the patient’s internal systems to make his or her immune system very strong.

Our Immune System at a Glance

Our immune system is our defense mechanism that protects us against the negative influences of antigens, proteins, bacteria, chemicals and cancerous cells that can cause us to become sick or develop diseases. It is composed of various types of white blood cells, called lymphocytes, whose numbers increase in response to infection and disease, including cancer.

Immunotherapy Educates and Directs the Immune System

The immune system is empowered to stop any illness in the body. But with patients who have developed cancer, there’s been a breakdown and the immune system did not recognize the cancer as an abnormal growth. Through utilizing the unique immunotherapy protocols at RCC, our goal in treating cancer is to educate and empower the immune system to go to the tumor, recognize it, destroy it and eliminate it from the body.

The body’s natural defense mechanisms are unable to recognize a cancerous tumor because it hides behind a specific camouflage, a protein coating that acts as a blocking factor, the immune system does not recognize the protein as foreign, sensing instead that it is a normal protein and does not attack it.

At RCC we use different types of vaccines to train the immune system to attack the cancer.
